Unknown gunmen attack vigilante officers and set vehicles ablaze at Ukpo roundabout on the 18th day of November 2024 being Monday.
Regarding the arrest of Nnamdi kanu, and the quest for the Igbos to be separate from other ethnic groups in Nigeria, unknown gunmen started attacking people in Nigeria southeast region around January 2021.
These unknown gunmen attack security forces and residents, this violence was said to be brought by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB movement.
The unknown gunmen attack vigilante officers started in 2020 under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu because the IPOBS were involved, many criminal groups were operating under its name.
The situation escalated in 2022,with a rapid increase in violent, kidnapping, assassination, and other attacks by these unknown gunmen.
Unknown gunmen attack election officers and candidates. This led to the southeast becoming the epic center of election related violence in the month leading up to February 2023.
Since 2021 till date, unknown gunmen has been terrorizing southeast region particularly targeting the security forces.
In January 2021,unknown gumen began conducting sophisticated attacks in the sotheast. By 2022, violence increased with kidnapping , assassination, attack in election offices and on candidates.
February 2023, election took place amidst high levels of violence and intimidation. May 16, 2024, unknown gunmen attacked a US convoy in Anambra state, killing four people and abducting three others.
November 18 2024, unknown gunmen attacked Ukpo roundabout in Anambra state, there security officers, vigilante officers precisely were killed and vehicles were set ablaze.
The situation of attack of the unknown gunmen in Nigeria southeast is complex, with various groups and individuals involved in violence and criminal activities.
Though it all started with the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA IPOBMOVEMENT, seeking autonomy or session for Nigeria Igbo people has been linked to these attacks. The fight is to let the Igbos go, the Igbos wants to be a separate entity and no longer want to be counted among one Nigeria.
In order to achieve this, the IPOBs started operating using unknown gunmen attacking government officials most especially th security forces, declaring Mondays sit at home so as to make the government comply to their request and let the IPOBs be.
in doing that, criminal groups took advantage of these operating under the unknown gunmen, attacking people and destroying properties. Criminal activities, kidnapping for ransom and extortion becomes common with groups using IPOB name to carry out these activities.

Various militant groups including the EASTERN SECURITY NETWORK (ESN) reactive in the region contributing to the violence,
The Nigeria Military has launched operations to combat the violence. with some success in reducing incidents and attacks of unknown gunmen in Anambra state.
The situation of unknown gunmen remains fluid, with concerns about the potential further violence and instability in the religion.
The IPOBs insist unless, Nnamdi Kanu is released and the Igbos is separated from other tribes in Nigeria, that’s the only remedy to their attacks of unknown gunmen.
